Makeup + Skin prep
Getting your makeup done?
This is for anyone prepping for a mAKEUP appointment with powder inc.
What to Wear
If you’re a bride coming for your trial run, please wear a white or off-white tank top. You want to be able to see your chest and arms etc.
If this is for an event or photoshoot, wear a top in the same or similar color as what you’re planning to wear for the event or photoshoot
If you’re a bridesmaid, wear a color same as your bridesmaid dress or stick to a neutral
Let’s talk SKIN!
To ensure the best possible outcome for your makeup, what you use on your skin leading up to your event/appointment is VERY important. The hardest skin condition to deal with when it comes to makeup is dry and/or textured skin. I have been on a SKIN journey for almost 10yrs (see pics below). These results were achieved through skincare. No fillers, lasers etc. I do do botox in my forehead. I am JUST as Passionate about SKIN as I am makeup. Good skin = Good makeup. PLEASE don’t hesitate to text with any questions about or help with skincare: 971-451-2211. If you want the best possible outcome with your makeup, it starts with your skincare.
Arrive with your face completely clean of ALL makeup but MOISTURIZED. If you use any additional skincare products, use those as well. Please don’t arrive with left over mascara residue or lash glue etc. Find a good eye makeup remover to use before your appt. I use THIS ONE. For wedding parties, if we have to clean your face, it adds time to your appointment that we don’t have. Sticking to our timeline is very important for the day to run smoothly for the bride.
Have your brows waxed 3-5 days before your appt. DO NOT wax your brows the day before… makeup won’t stick to freshly waxed skin. If we need to clean up some hairs, that is fine, but we won’t necessarily have time to do an entire re-shaping. Brows make a HUGE difference in your look, so take the time to get them properly shaped.
In the weeks and months leading up to your event or wedding, be diligent with your skincare routine and drink LOTS of water. It makes a difference.
Moisturizing day and night is key but I also strongly believe that everyone should be using a retinol and vitamin C as well as bare minimums. (unless you have super sensitive skin of course). I recommend BEAUTY SOCIETY for effective and affordable skincare. Take the skin quiz HERE and Use the code “STARTER20” at checkout for 20% OFF any full REGIMEN. I currently work with almost 200 women helping them with their skincare. You can text me (Nicole Wagner) ANYTIME to discuss your needs, ask questions etc. at 971-451-2211 (This number works for texts only) and I am HAPPY to help!
NOTE: Never start using a brand new product right before your wedding. Start at least 6 weeks before but the earlier the better.
1-2 nights before we recommend exfoliating your skin. This helps remove any dead dry skin sitting on the surface. Exfoliating regularly for the months leading up to your wedding is more ideal. I like this one if you don’t already have one you love: Crystal Ball
We can conceal discoloration, but please know that scars that raise below or above the skin will have shadows and this is impossible to completely hide with makeup. If you do struggle with this (for example: old acne scars), I HIGHLY recommend finding a good microneedle derma roller. I have linked a few HERE. Again text me with questions on how to use it ( I want to make sure you’re using it safely and effectively) but it is the best bet for smoothing textured skin when combined with Retinol. Microneedle rollers are not recommended for sensitive skin or active acne.
Planning on getting a spray tan?Everyone looks better with a bit of color. Even if you just want a light glow, we recommend skipping the sun and getting a spray tan. HOWEVER, who you hire matters. Read on…
We have seen a LOT of bad spray tans in our career and what you don’t want is a patchy orange spray tan on your wedding day. Foundation does not come in that shade and your face inevitably will not match your body. PLEASE test your spray tan gal BEFORE your wedding.
My personal spray tan artist is Haley from Aurose Beauty Haley works out of GLOW salon in downtown Portland but also does Mobile tans at your location. I have also had GREAT experience with the Organic Bronze Bar.
We highly recommend doing a trial run of your spray tan 2-3 days before your makeup trial run. This gives a good idea of what your skin tone will be on the wedding day so we can create your makeup look accordingly
Do NOT get your spray tan the day before your appointment or event. 2-3 days before your appointment or event day is perfect! Hayley only books up to 2mos in advance so once you have your trial run appt with us scheduled, reach out to her.
